Reunion Mania February 22, 2007

Seems like a lot of band from yesteryear are getting back together and embarking on huge and highly profitable tours.

The Reunited Police were recently seen on The Grammys Awards playing Roxanne. I didn’t watch the ever crappy Grammy awards but I did find the Police clip on You Tube. The band sounds really good. I was wondering if Sting, who has remade him himself into a stuffed shirt over the last decade, would be able to pull it off. There’s something about a rock star releasing an album of lute music that makes you lose faith. His voice sounded great and the band, energetic. Early reports of ticket prices are said to be pricey. I will probably just wait for the inevitable DVD.

Black Sabbath did turn and reunited with Dio. After Ozzy left Sabbath, Ronnie James Dio (Rainbow, Elf) took over and recorded three excellent and underrated albums with the band. The reunited band is going by the name Heaven and Hell as not to confuse fans who might think the band is touring with Ozzy.

Last year, Anthrax reunited with original singer Joey Belladonna and embarked on a nostalgia tour. Joey was recently dismissed via an Internet statement. Who cares anymore?

My favorite reunion antics are centered around Van Halen. The band announced that they would once again tour with David Lee Roth. Eddie, in his infinite wisdom did not ask bassist Micheal Anthony back. Instead, his son Wolfgang is taking over bass duties. The band made and announcement, did an interview with Rollingstone……..and then released a statement that the tour was cancelled! Surely this is due to the same battle of egos that has hampered VH reunions in the past…not to mention that Eddie is a major a***ole.

Here are some reunions that I would like to see:

1. Pink Floyd - They sounded great at Live 8. We want more!

2. Pavement - My favorite 90s indie band needs to reunite just so I can see them live. Please?

3.  Soundgarden - Since Chris Cornell has left Audioslave, it would be great if the band would get back together. Cornell already squashed rumors of a reformation saying while he is still friends with his ex-bandmates, all of them feel that there is no more to do with Soundgarden. I can respect that…begrudgingly.

Any reunions that you would like to see?
